CULTURAL EXCHANGE AND ACCULTURATION OF THE LO LO PEOPLE IN BAO LAC DISTRICT, CAO BANG PROVINCE

Abstract

The process of existence and development of ethnic communities often takes place in cultural exchange and acculturation, in which ethnic minority groups with smaller populations are often partly influenced or completely assimilated by the ethnic majority groups. To a minority ethnic community, in order to survive and develop, they have had to face two problems: adapting to live in harmony with the majority community in the same area; take action to maintain their cultural identity. To integrate and not to be dissolved is a challenge for ethnic minority communities. Each community has a different choice of ways to simultaneously exist and preserve its own cultural practices. In this article, by using fieldwork method and inheriting existing research results, the author mentions the ways that the Lo Lo people in Bao Lạc district, Cao Bằng province have done from history to the present to be able to survive, develop, preserve and enrich their culture.
